Ruth Johnson

Artist Reception Feb 4 6:30 - 8:30 PM

Ruth Roundy Johnson has been creating art since she was a child. She has always loved viewing beautiful art, having grown up near Springville Museum of Art, and is passionate about creating her own works ofar t which brings delight to her heart and soul.
She lives in Murray, Utah. She has studied art at Brigham Young University, Salt Lake Community
College, and Petersen Art Center. She honed her skills in her favorite medium, colored pencils, at
Petersen Art Center under the tutelage of Sheri Boyer Doty.
In 2009 she entered the annual art exhibit sponsored by the Intermountain Society of Artists where she won best of show and people’s choice award. The piece she entered is a colored pencil painting of Heavenly Blue Morning Glories. She has won other awards at the Annual Murray City Art Exhibit, as well as awards at the State Fair Art Exhibits. She has also had two quilts in Springville Museum of Art quilt shows. She has been artist in residence in Murray twice.
She loves to do colored pencil paintings of flowers and recently she has done some of hummingbirds.
Recently she began oil painting again and has painted some portraits of some of her grandchildren and after encouragement from another art teacher she has been doing palette knife landscape paintings, a fun divergence from her controlled and realistic colored pencil work.
Her passion for art is a wondrous thing, as it provides Ruth with endless adventures in learning new ways to express her love of the beauties of all the creations in our world, from people to flowers and birds, and lately to landscapes. She delights in offering her art to anyone who appreciates what she has created. While it can be hard to part with her original paintings, she loves to have others enjoy her creations in their homes as they buy the originals, or her fine art giclee prints.
